If a discount is applied to an estimate or invoice, it should be clearly displayed in the pricing summary near the subtotal and total—not as a custom field inserted somewhere else.
Customers naturally look at the pricing summary to understand how their total was calculated. Displaying the discount there provides transparency and makes it easy to see:
Original price
Discount amount (or percentage)
Final total due
Showing the discount in in any other area is confusing because it is unrelated to pricing and is not where customers expect to find financial information.
It would also be really helpful if the Discount line only appeared on customer-facing estimates and invoices when a discount has actually been applied. If no discount is given, the Discount field should simply remain hidden. This would keep estimates and invoices cleaner, more professional, and easier for customers to read.
Moving the discount to the totals section would create a much more intuitive experience for both businesses and customers, reduce confusion, and improve the professionalism of estimates and invoices.
